Joanna Newsom & The Ys Street Band

mountainphases DEFINITIVE CLAM, CRAB. WE LOVE IT ALL, BUT CLAM, CRAB ON THIS IS MAJOR. IT'S REALLY A BREAKTHROUGH.
Wino Mercantilism An amazing E.P. showcasing Joanna's versatility. The new song, Colleen, absolutely bumps and the two new arrangements are stunning. Newsom is a generational talent. Favorite track: Clam, Crab, co*ckle, Cowrie.
richard my favorite collection of Joanna's. i feel like this is more focused on expression than performance -maybe because Joanna's voice was shot from touring so they were playing quietly? just a guess; but her singing here is some of my favorite, and i prefer these arrangements over the big-production ones on ys.
...and cosmia contains some of the most inspired saw playing i've ever heard.
Oktavia Davison A truly triumphant EP, and possibly the best introduction to Joanna for a newcomer, as it is extremely accessible, and each of the three songs here demonstrates a different aspect of what makes Joanna’s music so amazing. The Celtic-inspired Colleen provides an energetic entrance to the work, followed by the subdued Clam, Crab, co*ckle, Cowrie. Once again, however, Newsom’s superb ability to close an album reigns supreme, with Cosmia being given even further emotion than in its original form.1 Favorite track: Colleen.
James Loves You An excellent EP that served as a powerful victory lap for Joanna Newsom at the time of its release. The extended version of Cosmia here is outstanding.
NVNice It's not easy to make a song with lyrics as amazing as those on "Cosmia", but here it is again, with a more...light arrangement and a sublime instrumental coda, which serves as a testament to Joanna's superb song craftmanship.

about
It took 3 years, but Joanna's finally made her mark on DC pun-dom. To sweeten the deal, she's included some music with this already valuable pun. 3 tracks: one new, one old and one recent - all recorded with Joanna's touring band, giving the oldies completely different arrangements.

As usual, Kirby manipulates various interwar records to fit a cavalcade of emotional states: blissful (B1, E8), tragic (D2, D5), frantic (E1, E6), and just plain horrifying (F3, G1, H1, K1). gjoe52
