The Portland Pudgy safety dinghy is a great rowboat and motorboat, a sailboat, and a dynamic lifeboat. You can customize your order as you choose, adding or substituting options from the list that follows. 92” long x 53”wide. USCG approved 4 persons. Available inwarm white, sunset yellow, and black. Note that colors on website will vary from actual boat color, depending on your computer monitor. Click any photo to enlarge.

  • Two 6’-6” collapsible aluminum oars with retaining sleeves and collars ($195 value)
  • Richie compass standard (optional electrical system will illuminate compass)
  • Towing bridle harness (secures to two stainless steel eyes with backer disk for towing, lifting, or sea anchor).
  • Drain with tethered plug, Makes boat self-bailing with tethered drain plug (boat weight plus 25 lbs.)
  • Hand-holds in keel for righting boat (which comes up empty of water after capsize)
  • Three seats with hand holds (middle seat adjusts to two rowing positions for extra space and load/ballast adjustments; seat uses stainless steel pin hinges)
  • Five storage/access hatches w/gaskets (6.4” inside diameter. All accessory equipment, sailing rig, oars, exposure canopy, sea anchor, etc. fit through the access hatches)

Makes the Pudgy a fun sailing dinghy or a lifeboat you can sail to safety. Both rigs can be adapted to leg-o-mutton configuration. Both rigs can store inside boat through transom access hatch. Sails come in white (standard) or orange ($85 additional).

Stable and safe because wind spills out of the gaff even when broached (and it’s fun to sail).

Really fun sail rig!Comes into the wind well even in light winds.

Stores inside boat through transom access hatch. Includes:

SeeSailing Dinghy.

Protects mother boat from dinghy riding into stern while towing in following seas, and from bumping while moored. Looks good, too. Installed. Recommended if towing.

Includes:

  • Coarse weave, white, “canvas” covered foam bumper with sewn ends 52” long installed on bow
  • 22 wide head stainless steel screws

Functions as a boarding ladder, grab line, fender, and foot support to right boat. Makes it even easier to board from the water.Recommended with lifeboat system.

Includes:

  • Foam flotation cylinder with Sunbrella cover, which serves as a fender
  • Web boarding ladder, which is rolled around foam cylinder and when pulled serves as ladder
  • Line through cylinder, which secures to boat and serves as a grab line.

SeeLifeboat Components.

Protects mother boat from dinghy when pulled up alongside, and protects dinghy while tied up at a dock.

Includes:

  • Coarse weave, white, “canvas” covered foam fender
  • Line through length of fender, with same metal line stops used in boarding ladder/fender (see above)

Transforms boat into four-person, hard bottom, unsinkable,dynamic lifeboat (when used with sailing rig or oars). Self-rights empty boat. Stores inside Pudgy or is pre-set on gunwales (if used in preset position requires boat cover).

Note: If you plan to use the Pudgy as a potential lifeboat, in addition to the exposure canopy, you should also get a sea anchor and a boat cover below. See Lifeboat Components.

Includes:

  • Three-section canopy (with 6” dia. flotation tubes around entire gunwale and two 6” diameter support arches) Adds 430 lbs of flotation.
  • Bow and stern tubes inflate by two CO2 cylinders (in 17 seconds) or by hand pump
  • Zip in middle section (with two 6”dia. flotation pods orally-inflated)
  • Two top-off/pressure relief valves (US Navy approved)
  • Two inflation valves and two check valves (US Navy-approved)
  • Two 230 gram CO2 cylinders (one for bow and one for stern)

Stabilizes boat in severe weather.Essential part of lifeboat system.Rugged, proven design, engineered by Fiorentino Para-Anchor for the Portland Pudgy. It is much bigger and more rugged than a sea anchorsupplied with aconventional four man life raft.

Includes:

  • Rugged 30”dia. para-anchor
  • 70’ of 3/8” dia. rode and stainless steel attachment clip,
  • Patented stainless steel swivel ring shackle to prevent tangling.

SeeLifeboat Components.

Pumps out storage chamber or co*ckpit.Recommended for lifeboat system.

Includes:

  • Manual bilge pump, Beckson, 18” (inserts into storage chamber)
  • Gasketed screw open access port mounted on gunwale.

SeeLifeboat Components.

For lifting boat onto the deck or cabin roof, lifting into a davit harness for carrying on arm davits, for securing crew in safety harnesses (recommended as part of lifeboat system), for tying down cargo, and for use w/hiking straps.

Includes:

  • Four stainless steel eyes, one near each corner of the co*ckpit, near floor.
  • Backer plate for each lifting eye (on interior side wall)
  • Three bolts for each lifting eye.

All standard boat covers are silver grayOdyssey, 6.5 oz/sq yd, Acrylic coated polyester, mildew- and UV-resistant, breathable, 12” deep skirt. See below for prices and details.

Note:A boat cover is required when using the exposure canopy in pre-set mode to make sure the exposure canopy doesn’t blow around and accidentally inflate. SeeLifeboat Components.

Boat cover in custom color Odyssey, or Sunbrella fabric:

  • Protects boat from the elements. Includes:
  • Bungee cord around perimeter of skirt for snug fit
  • Two 1” webbing straps with push button buckles buckles that pass under bottom of boat to secure cover, 1” webbing pull strap at stern with stainless steel push button buckle for securing cover in severe wind.
  • Four reinforced access slot holes for access to tie-down through-holes in boat.
  • Reinforced corners.

  • Four 12” double pull zippers for access to Weaver davit mounting eyes and stand-off rods
  • Four reinforced access holes (two used for Weaver davit mounting eyes).

  • Two 24” double pull zippers to access davit lifting lines to Portland Pudgy lifting bridles
  • Four 12” double pull zippers to access davit harness spring lines to lifting eye bolts on Pudgy

Runs safety lights and other 12-V plug-in equipment. All-around white navigational light is required by USCG for traveling at night. All LED lights in the system.

Includes:

  • Electrical panel with gasket and fuse
  • Accessory socket (powers 12 V. plug-in equipment, and can receive power for charging battery by solar panel or charger)
  • Two toggle switches (one for compass LED and LED navigation/pole light, one for red LED chart reading/interior light)
  • Battery (rechargeable, 12 volt, 2.9 AH, 2.4 lbs, sealed lead acid). Use a 12-volt battery recharger or a 12-volt solar panel (see below).
  • 26” – 48” adjustable 2mi (USCG) LED navigation pole light, all-around white, removable. Stores inside access hatch. Navigation light base and gasket.

2- Mile (USCG) LED bi-color bow light. Corrosion resistant sealed electronics with stainless steel housing. 50,000 + hours. Attwood.

Plugs into electrical panel outlet or other outlets. Allows charging battery while on the water, in about 6 hours. Also charges devices such as cell phones. Stores in boat or on canopy. UV-resistant, weatherproof, lightweight, flexible, and durable.

Includes:

  • Rollable solar charger, Power Film R-7.
  • Adapter
  • Operating voltage 14.4. Operating current Amps .45
  • Dimensions 23 inches x 14.5 inches; (rolled dimensions 14.5 inches x 3.75 inches.
  • UV-resistant, weatherproof, lightweight, flexible, and durable.

Designed byWeaver Industries, specifically for use with the Portland Pudgy. A removable, rugged stainless steel, davit system to secure dinghy to boats with swim platforms. Allows the Pudgy to hinge up out of the water. Stabilizes boat for boarding and disembarking.

Includes:

  • Two removable heavy duty eye pins and backer plates for Pudgy
  • Two snap davit heads for swim platform.

Two stand off arms are not included; price varies with length.

Standard Weaver davits, $480.

Special swim platform davits, for example those used on Ranger tugs are about $632, depending on swim platform configuration.

Swim platform davits with 10-inch drop snap-ups $711.62.

Receiver plates for easy removal of the davit heads from the swim platform. Includes all mounting hardware plus pin and lanyard.

SeeDinghy Towing and Carrying.

Used with double arm type davit system to support weight of dinghy from the underside. Secures dinghy horizontally or vertically (to avoid dinghy filling with water in a following sea). All stainless steel hardware.

Note that it is necessary to use this (or other harness) to support the weight of the Pudgy when on arm davits.

Includes:

  • Two lifting bridles (secured to four lifting eyes on Pudgy)
  • One “H” harness for passing under bottom of Pudgy for support
  • Two adjustable spring lines to stabilize dinghy in heavy seas
  • Two connecting straps (secured to far end of davit arm)
  • Two connecting straps with ratchets (secured to elbow of davit arms)

SeeDinghy Towing and Carrying.

Used to to lift the Pudgy (e.g. onto deck or cabin roof). Adjustable, for balancing Pudgy. Attaches to four lifting eyes installed in co*ckpit (separate item).

Note that this is only for lifting the Pudgy, it is not meant for carrying the full weight of the Pudgy on arm davits. The weight of the Pudgy must be supported by a davit harness slung underneath the boat when it is on arm davits. (See Davit Harness, above.)

Includes:
